At Rocko's suggestion, the two return to Conglom-O and convince Mr. Ed is fired and his house is slated for demolition the next day. As a result, Conglom-O enters bankruptcy, along with all of O-Town. Meanwhile, Ed Bighead makes a clerical error due to a mishap caused by Rocko's re-entry. Bev Bighead comes to welcome Rocko back to Earth when asked by Rocko why he can't find The Fatheads on TV, she explains the show has been off the air for many years, much to Rocko's horror. Heffer and Filburt quickly accept all the new customs and technology, but Rocko is overwhelmed and secludes himself in his house. They use the re-entry button and land back in O-Town, which they find has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. Passing by Earth, Filburt realizes that the remote controlling the rocket has been stuck to Heffer's butt all along. Rocko’s Modern Life is still alive and well thanks to being given a new lease of life in the world of comics, and despite how well this special will undoubtedly be received, we probably shouldn’t hold our breath for a new series. Sadly, this is likely going to be a one-off. This plays perfectly into the whole nostalgia theme, and there’s even a moment in which Rocko watches the Fathead’s reboot and immediately turns on it before realising change is good, negating any actual negativity so-called fans might have about the real-life reboot. In fact, even the story could have existed in the show’s original run, save for a few modern-day references. The animation style has not been updated, nor has the colour palette. It’s a fun twist and one that we don’t intend to spoil in this review.Īll your favourites are back for this special, making Static Cling feel like a long-lost episode from way back when rather than an all-new adventure. At the forefront, it is a story about Rocko being dragged kicking and screaming into the current era, but at its heart, there’s a much deeper story here, and in true Rocko’s Modern Life form it pushes the boundaries, immediately catapulting Static Cling ahead many of its modern-day counterparts. Static Cling is a story about letting go of the past and embracing the future.
